Programs of Study for NAFTrack Certification
NAF Academies of Engineering use curriculum developed by Project Lead The Way, The STEM Academy, Paxton/Patterson, and Intelitek as described below. Each of these programs has fees for curriculum implementation and maintenance that must be paid directly to the vendor by NAF academies. The integrated units for the Academy of Engineering that were once housed in the curriculum library have been archived. Project Lead The Way
Project Lead The Way offers a three- to four-year engineering curriculum program that encompasses two foundational engineering courses and a choice of eight specialization courses that academies can choose from to customize for their local area. Specialization courses include Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering and Architecture, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Computer Science and Software Engineering, Digital Electronics, Environmental Sustainability, and a capstone course in Engineering Design and Development.
Paxton/Patterson offers a flexible turnkey STEM program that includes all equipment and supplies, installation, and technical support. Schools select the appropriate number of modules that best fit their district's pathway and schedule. Modules include: Alternative Energy, Architectural Design, Biotechnology, Communications Technology, Construction Technology, Digital Electronics, Environmental Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Materials Science, Robotics and Automation, and Transportation Technology. The higher-level applications course consists of four work-themed units that include engineering applications in Alternative Energy and Environment, Architecture and Construction, Manufacturing and Materials, and Robotics. The application program utilizes SolidWorks and leads to industry certification.
The STEM Academy's STEM 101 curriculum allows academies to choose a multiyear program of study from the following courses in the Engineering pathway: Introduction to Engineering, 3D Solid Modeling, Principles of Engineering, Engineering Technology, Foundations of Technology, Foundations in Biotechnology, and Green Methods.
Supplemental and Support Courses
Algebra 1 Math Support
This math curriculum can serve as replacement units for the major chapters in a traditional textbook or as supplemental projects to make Algebra I concepts and skills more engaging for all students. Each of the six units is project-based and incorporates engineering and design themes, fundamental skills, problem solving, and critical thinking.
Capital One Future Edge
Capital One has recently created a digital literacy curriculum that is free and open to everyone. The curriculum is delivered using an online module-based system to help people increase their digital literacy through 10 different modules. On the website, students can take a quiz to determine their strengths and weaknesses in digital literacy, which serves as a great talking point for preparing students for the world of work. Modules include: Computer Fundamentals, Searching, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Digital Communication, Digital Etiquette, Security, Focus at Work, and LinkedIn & Personal Branding. Summer Math Bridge Program
The Summer Math Bridge Program introduces students to the process of selecting and using units of appropriate size and type to measure angles, perimeter, area, surface area, and volume.
